Moot Court Professional Development
OCLRE office: 1700 Lake Shore Drive Columbus 43204
This professional development will help advisors interested in starting Moot Court programs in their school or classroom. Moot Court is a simulated appellate argument that allows students to play the role of attorneys arguing before a mock Supreme Court. Students gain valuable tools of text analysis, critical thinking, persuasive writing, and extemporaneous speaking, all while studying both sides of contemporary Constitutional issues.
Attendees will:
- Learn the basics of the appellate process including research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
- Learn skills of legal analysis (reading court opinions, interpreting statutes, constructing arguments, etc.).
- Learn how to organize and lead a team to compete in the statewide moot court competition.
- Leave with concrete activities and lesson plans to start a moot court team at their school.
