Our educational programs engage students in authentic learning experiences that help prepare them to be informed and active members of their communities. Through their participation, students work collaboratively to explore and understand critical and complex historical and contemporary issues that shape our system of government and impact our lives.
Student Programs
High School Mock TrialHigh School Mock Trial offers an innovative approach to learning about law and how our legal system functions. Guided by teachers and volunteer legal advisors, students participate in an original, unscripted simulated trial written by attorneys. High school students argue both sides of the case in real courtrooms across the state. The state finals are held in the Ohio Statehouse, and the winner advances to the national competition. | Middle School Mock TrialMiddle School Mock Trial offers an innovative approach to learning about law and how our legal system functions through literature-based cases. Middle school students act as witnesses and attorneys to argue their cases at the Supreme Court of Ohio in front of judges and attorneys. Cases are derived from commonly-read books at the middle school level.

We the PeopleWe the People...The Citizen and the Constitution is an instructional program that teaches the history and principles of the American constitutional democracy while enhancing students' understanding of government. Students discover the contemporary relevance of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights at the same time. | Moot CourtMoot Court focuses on the appellate court process and is designed to provide students the opportunity to present a simulated oral argument and respond to questions posed by a panel of volunteer judges. |
Youth For JusticeYouth for Justice is a student-led program designed to empower youth to be actively engaged citizens who work together to make a positive difference in their community. | Project CitizenProject Citizen is a portfolio-based civic education project designed by the Center for Civic Education for middle school and high school students as well as youth groups. The goal of the program is to promote competent and responsible participation in state and local government. Project Citizen actively engages students in learning how to monitor and influence public policy and encourages civic participation among students, parents and members of the community. |
