Reading High Teacher Andy Janig Named Recipient of Mock Trial Coaching Award

COLUMBUS (Sep. 22, 2023) – The Ohio Center for Law-Related Education (OCLRE) will honor Reading Jr/Sr High School teacher Andy Janig as the recipient of the 2023 Eiler Award for Mock Trial Coaching Excellence at its annual Mock Trial Conference on Monday, September 25.

Janig’s colleague, John McClellan, was among those who nominated him on behalf of colleagues and current and former students. “For the past 25 years, Andy Janig has coached and taught middle school and high school students. He has changed countless lives and improved the life skills of everyone who has come through the [mock trial] program,” McClellan said. “A number of former students became lawyers and work in law today. Others have joined the military. Others made it to the Fortune 500. Many were accepted into Ivy League schools. Many coaches have come to respect the program that Andy has built here at Reading.”

OCLRE has provided civics and law-related academic programming for students throughout the state for the past 40 years. Established in 1983 as Ohio Mock Trial, OCLRE has grown to include five student-focused programs as well as teacher professional development offerings. Ohio’s high school mock trial program is among the nation’s largest mock trial programs.

OCLRE is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to improve society by developing citizens empowered with an understanding of our democratic system. The Supreme Court of Ohio, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio Foundation sponsor the Center. OCLRE programs are funded in part by a grant from the Ohio State Bar Foundation.
